Gerber: Banana, Blackberry, Blueberry

1/15/22  Gerber: Banana, Blackberry, Blueberry Blackberries may be gone -  https://www.firstpost.com/tech/india/when-products-die-the-death-of-iconic-blackberry-is-another-life-cycle-ending-within-our-own-10287271.html , but they are still with us. This is Rafi's first exposure to blackberry.  Officially first taste was 1/14 but that was the shabbas.  Taste-testing was 1/15, but I only got around to writing/posting 1/16. Hannah: Creamy, bananaey, very heavy on the banana.  Kind of like a baby smoothie. 8/10 Brenna: Smells berryish but I smell the banana [as well\.  A little pungent [but also] the sweetness of banana.  Kind of like a tangy taste besides the banana.  I agree with Hannah on flavored smoothie.  I like it.  It tastes like what I think good baby food would taste it. <Hannah and Brenna went back and forth on whether it would be gourmet.> Charles: Oddly I tasted the berry more than the banana.  Still creamy and good but I was expecting the banana far more.  I also re

Happy Baby: Prunes

Image
1/6/21 Happy Baby: Prunes No Prune Hands . Brenna: Tastes like smooth velvety prune.  With less sugar. Charles: Had a sweet raisin taste at first before going to the tarty prune.  Smooth. Rafi: <wants more> So I have a negative association with prunes.  I was kind of forced to have them in my younger days.  I can now appreciate prunes cooked with chicken or in a cholent, but I still cringe at them.  And Brenna makes me buy them for her. This was also our first experience with this brand. Kosher Pareve under the OU

Gerber: Apple

Image
1/5/22  Gerber: Apple No latkes nor honey Brenna: Tangy apple.  Smooth. Charles: Really just like applesauce.  Just with less sugar. Rafi: <wants more> Since we needed to finish day three of zucchini, we supplemented today with something he has already been exposed to. Ironically, Rafi was wearing his Hanukkah outfit which concluded a month ago.  It's custom to have potato latkes with apple sauce (and/or sour cream).  The other Jewish custom with apples is to have them during the new year (not a few days ago) Rosh Hashanah.  However, you dip them in honey, which is a no-no with babies. Gerber: Pear, Zucchini, Corn

Image
1/3/22 Gerber: Pear, Zucchini, Corn Pear and a pair of veggies. This is Rafi's first exposure to zucchini, he has had pear and corn before. Brenna: Tangy.  Tastes like pear.  Smooth.  Not sure if I can taste the vegetables.  Good. Charles: I pretty much agree with this assessment.  The pear is the overwhelming taste here.  I guess it's a good way to get a child his vegetables. Rafi: <wants more> It was not until after we tasted this that we saw the "1/2 pear, 4 tsp zucchini, 2 tsp corn" that indicated this was overwhelmingly pear.  Before this blog, we had a corn/squash mix and the corn was a much more defined taste. Gerber Peach

Image
1/1/22 Gerber: Peach Rafi has had peach before.  He finds it... peachy. Brenna: Tangy.  The part I had was liquidy.  Good flavor.  Tasted like peach - almost like juice.  Varied consistency. Charles: Definitely tarty.  Can clearly taste the peach flavor.  I feel like an actual peach would be sweeter. Special Guest Hannah: It's not bad.  It tastes like peach.  It has a smooth, velvety texture; some would say decadent.  I would rate 9/10. Rafi: <wants more> Brenna noticed that Rafi was not making a face when eating it.  Hence, it was not too sweet or tart for him. Kosher Pareve under the OU.
